STATEMENT

Much of our recent research has explored how a building's skin can affect its environmental performance and how that skin can emulate the performance and characteristics of human skin. This has lead us from the simple use of sliced bamboo as a shading skin in our Nanjing CIPEA project to the complexity of a cellular outer skin with digital interface in our "La Nada" project in Arizona. We are driven by a desire to re-humanize the built environment and eliminate the need to air-condition buildings. Our model plays on this, illustrating our belief that architecture's potential exists in the human spirit.

ABOUT SEAN GODSELL ARCHITECTS

Sean Godsell graduated with first class honors from the University of Melbourne in 1984 and earned his M.Arch from RMIT University, entitled The Appropriateness of the Contemporary Australian Dwelling (1999). In July 2002, influential UK design magazine wallpaper listed him as one of 10 people destined to "change the way we live." Godsell lectures widely both in Australia and overseas. He has received 16 local and five international awards and in July 2003 received a citation from the American Institute of Architects for his work for the homeless. He is currently working on projects in the USA, China and Australia.
